The ski area at Oddskarð in the East Fjords, between Eskifjörður and Neskaupstaður, was the first to open this season on Saturday. On Friday, Hlíðarfjall the largest ski area in Iceland, in Akureyri, North Iceland will open from 4 pm.

It is unknown when the two ski areas in the capital region, Bláfjöll and Skálfell, will open, but Reykjavík received snowfall over the weekend.
Magnús Árnason, director of the capital region ski areas, told mbl.is that the slopes may not open until early December.
