A serious two-car collision occurred on Hellisheiði mountain pass—the road to the south of Iceland—around 4 pm yesterday afternoon. One of the cars was carrying two people, who are reportedly not in a serious condition, while the driver of the other car, who was traveling alone, sustained serious injuries. She is being kept asleep at the Landspítali National University Hospital, visir.is reports.

According to the search and rescue services, the road was icy and there were strong winds with snow drifts and poor visibility at the time of the accident.
The road was closed for several hours and traffic diverted along Þrengslavegur.
