The woman who was seriously injured in a two car collision on Hellisheiði mountain pass between Reykjavík and Hveragerði, South Iceland, last night passed away this evening. She had been in a critical condition and was being kept asleep at Landspítali National University Hospital following the accident.
The deceased, who was 21 years old, was a resident of Hveragerði, ruv.is reports.
The passengers in the other car escaped without serious injuries.
According to the search and rescue services, the road was icy and there were strong winds with snow drifts and poor visibility at the time of the accident.
Police ask anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact them by phone on 480 1010.
