Siggi’s Skyr, a brand of Icelandic-style yoghurt started by Icelander Sigurður Hilmarsson in New York, has proven so popular in the United States that it is now available in 40,000 stores across the country. Sales reached ISK 2 billion (USD 17.4 million, EUR 12.7 million) last year, ruv.is reports.

Sigurður started producing skyr in his home kitchen around ten years ago. Today, around 15 people work at the company, The Icelandic Milk and Skyr Corporation, and another 80 work in production.
Icelandic company MS also exports skyr to the United States.
