The wind at Stórhöfði in Vestmannaeyjar (the Westman islands) yesterday was among the strongest ever recorded in Iceland. The easterly wind reached 180 km/h (112mph) last night.
Stórhöfði is home to the southernmost house in Iceland as is also the windiest place in the country, radio station Bylgjan reported. The lighthouse in Stórhöfði is home to the weatherman who files weather reports to the Icelandic Met Office in Reykjavík.
