American television station HBO has released a new behind the scenes video of the filming of Game of Thrones season four in Iceland, entitled Intensity of Iceland. The series was filmed in Iceland last summer.
Director Alex Graves said filming in Iceland last year had been even better than the previous two times when they visited during the winter. “You can see how incredibly green and beautiful it is,” he said. Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark, said it had been a surprise to see what was underneath all of the snow.
The variety in and unspoiled nature of Iceland’s landscape was one of the major drawcards, producer Chris Newman said. “There’s waterfalls, it has great canyons, it has great views uninterrupted by houses and highways and powerlines.”
It was so warm in Iceland last summer that some of the actors commented that it was too hot to be wearing armor and fur.
Game of Thrones series four will premiere in the United States on April 6.
