The police in the Suðurnes region, Southwest Iceland, caught a man driving 179 km/h on his way to Keflavík International Airport earlier this week, mbl.is reports.

The speed limit along Reykjanesbraut, and the maximum speed limit in Iceland, is 90 km/h so the man was driving double the maximum permitted speed.

The man was fined ISK 120,000 (USD 1065, EUR 775).

Police in the region fined 19 people for speeding this week, including some who were driving between 117-148 km/h in a 90 km/h. One person was caught driving 126 km/h in a 70-zone.
