A government meeting with the leaders of the opposition parties on how to resolve a disagreement on the EU issue and whether to put the question to a national referendum ended without a conclusion earlier this evening.

The debate will continue at a parliamentary meeting at 13:30 tomorrow, ruv.is reports.

Around 500 people protested outside the parliament this evening despite the stormy weather.

Almost 49,000 people—20 percent of eligible voters in Iceland—have signed a petition calling for a national referendum on whether to continue the talks.
