An estimated 300-400 dolphins were seen in Norðfjörður, where the East Iceland town of Neskaupstaður is located, on Friday. They are believed to have been white-beaked dolphins.

Neskaupstaður local Kristín Hávarðsdóttir, who filmed the dolphins from a boat (the video can be viewed here), said it was a real pleasure to be able to observe so many of the animals up close. “I’ve never ever seen anything like it and I’ve lived here for 12 years,” she told visir.is, adding that it was particularly exciting to see them at their full length when they were jumping out of the water.
