Tourist Fee to Pass through Mosfellsbær?

Member of the Mosfellsbær town council, Jón Jósef Bjarnason, put forward a proposal on Thursday to implement the collection of a fee from tourists passing through the town, which lies on the outskirts of Reykjavík, ruv.is reports.

Hundreds of thousands of travelers, both local and foreign, pass through the town on Ring Road 1 to West and North Iceland, as well as towards Þingvellir National Park and Geysir, South Iceland.

The traffic costs the town money and is also a disruption, Jón said at a council meeting.

Jón said that his proposal was simply a joke to protest against the new entrance fee to the Geysir area.
