Russians Biggest Spenders in Iceland

Russian tourists to Iceland spend more money than tourists from any other country. The average Russian tourist visiting Iceland spends 250 percent more than the second-placed Norwegian tourist, according to a new report from Landsbanki. The report was prepared for the bank’s conference about the Icelandic tourism industry, held earlier this week.

Only 7,000 Russians visited Iceland last year, compared to 137,000 Britons. Visitors from Britain ranked second last on the biggest spenders list, eyjan.is reports.  Visitors from the U.S. made up the second largest group by nationality with 120,000. The number of visitors from the U.K., 103 percent, followed by the U.S., 54 percent.  Swedish tourists were the only group which decreased in number between 2012 and 2013.

The only country to drop in number of visitors to Iceland was Sweden.
