The Icelandic Naming Committee has rejected the name Eldflaug (‘Missile’) as a first name for girls but approved the boy's name Skröggur (‘Scrooge’), mbl.is reports.

Eldflaug was rejected in part because it may cause children bearing the name unnecessary ridicule.

The names Þórinn, Dalí, Evían, Ásar, Eddi, Marzilíus, Sigurlogi, Dynþór, Fíus, Benvý, Gulli, Sæmi, Reykdal, Elvis Aaron and Auður were also approved as boy’s names but Krishna, Cesar, Gauji and Fenris were rejected.

The names Karmen, Fold, Arja, Sjana, Irmelín, Olivia, Grethe, Dúnna, Alena, Eyborg, Christel, Sigvalda, Varða, Manúella, Elíza, Akira, Ísidóra, Sæbrá, Daría, Rökkva, Íslilja, Ósklín, Andríana, Sigrid, Cathinca and Júní were added to the list of approved Icelandic names for girls.

At the same time, Maxime, Maxine, Layla, Zoë and Alex were rejected.
