On Easter Sunday, Páskadagur (“Easter Day”), people in Iceland often have roast meat for dinner, often lamb, and enjoy chocolate Easter eggs.
Easter Sunday, also known as Resurrection Day, is the most important religious feast of the Christian liturgical year. In Iceland it is also a celebration of spring.
School children make Easter decorations to be displayed on Easter Sunday. The decorations include painted eggs and chickens made out of colored paper or tufts of wool.
People also decorate their homes with twigs in vases and daffodils. Green and yellow are the predominant colors of Easter decorations.
In many countries lamb is eaten on Easter Sunday, but as lamb is the traditional Sunday roast in Iceland, smoked pork or other types of roasts are also popular dinner options.
Children look forward to Easter eggs made of chocolate and filled with candy that are eaten on this day.
