An earthquake measuring 4.1 hit 9.6 kilometers southeast of Hestfjall, South Iceland, shortly after 11 pm last night. The quake was felt in the towns of Selfoss and Hvolsvöllur. No damage has been reported.

A second earthquake measuring 2.3 hit immediately after.

Knútur Rafn Ármann, who lives in Reykholt, told that the larger earthquake had not lasted long but that it was quite powerful. “There was a strong blow, as if the house had been rammed.”

No further earthquakes over 1.0 in magnitude have been recorded since late last night.
