Icelandic Men Live Longest

Icelanders are known for having among the longest life expectancies in the world. According to the latest report from the World Health Organisation (WHO), life expectancy among Icelandic men is 81 years, the longest in the world. Life expectancy among men is 80 years or more in nine countries.

Meanwhile, Icelandic women have a life expectancy of 84 years but did not make it to the top 10 countries in 2014. Japan topped the list with 87 years, followed by Spain, Switzerland and Singapore.

The gap between male and female life expectancy is greater in high-income countries where women live around six years longer than men. In low-income countries, the difference is around three years.
