U.S. company Silicor Materials, a leading manufacturer of high-quality solar silicon, plans to sign a contract with Faxaflóahafnir Associated Icelandic Ports on the building of a new silicon plant at Grundartangi in Hvalfjörður, 60 km (40 miles) north of Reykjavík, today.

The plant is expected to cost ISK 77 billion (USD 700 million, EUR 500 million) and will employ 420 people on completion, half of them with special skills.
