The police in Hvolsvöllur, South Iceland, caught a motorbike rider driving 187 km/ h (117 mph) or 97 km/h (60 mph) over the speed limit, just east of the town yesterday. The police confiscated the man's license.

The speed limit on roads outside urban areas in Iceland is 90 km/h ( 56 mph).

Six other drivers were fined for speeding yesterday, all of them driving too fast on the scenic stretch of Ring Road 1 between Vík and Kirkjubæjarklaustur, mbl.is reports.
