The Icelandic travel agency, Iceland Travel, was awarded a Social Media in Travel + Tourism, or SMITTY, award for its Vine feed, in the category of Best Use of Emerging Platform.

Vine is a mobile application, released in 2012, which allows users to create 6 second long, looping video clips. Iceland Travel was rewarded for taking full advantage of the technology to document and share Icelandic nature.

The award is shared with Chinese hotel chain Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, for their excellent use of the Chinese social media site Weibo, which fuses many of the functions of both Facebook and Twitter.

The SMITTYs were established in 2012 by the prestigious US based travel magazine Travel & Leisure.

Here are some recent examples of one of Iceland Travel’s popular Vines.
