The feared pre-school teachers’ strike will not go ahead now that they have agreed a new employment contract.
A contract agreement has been reached between the Icelandic Association of Pre-school Teachers and the Union of Icelandic Municipalities. The new contract has already been signed by the parties.
The two sides have been engaged in intense mediation meetings, ahead of a planned strike, starting on the 19th July. That strike will not now go ahead, RÚV reports.
The new contract lasts one year, or from 1st June 2014 until 31st May 2015.
The contract needs to be approved in a vote by pre-school teachers' union members. It will be presented to them in the coming days and an electronic vote on the contract will take place and conclude at 12.00 on Friday 4th July.
