Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden was exempted from the new entrance fee near Námaskarð, North Iceland, it has been revealed.

Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel have been on an official visit to Iceland, during which they toured many of the country’s tourist sites.

The controversial news this week that tourists are now being charged to enter the hot spring area east of Námaskarð, in the Mývatn area, has been slightly compounded by the fact that the royal couple were not asked to pay entry.

Victoria and Daniel visited Húsavík to go whale watching on the final day of their tour. Afterwards they had lunch with Prime Minister Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson. Next they went to Mývatn and Námaskarð, followed by a stop at Goðafoss waterfall.

They finished their program at an Arctic co-operation conference in Akureyri, RÚV reported.
