“We made this film for very little money and the dream has always been to give those who put their heart and soul into this project something in return,” says Lára Guðrún Jóhönnudóttir, producer of the short film Jón Jónsson.

The film was selected for participation in the internet film festival, Viewster. Lára says that 568 films are competing in the festival and that the festival theme this time is complicated love relationships.

“Our film, Jón Jónsson, is about a widower who lives alone and has never re-married. He is stuck in his ways and keeps a strict routine. He had a very complicated relationship with his dead wife and soon strange events start to take place,” Lára says. The part of Jón is played by domestically famous Icelandic actor, Erlingur Gíslason.

The winning film will win USD 70,000 in prize money and Jón Jónsson is in 34th place out of 568, at the time of writing, Vísir.is reported.

“We have been creeping up the list without asking anyone to vote. Now, though, we are asking people to vote for the film so we can get even higher, as it seems that Icelanders’ hearts beat as one on the internet, and everyone generally wants to support young up-and-coming Icelanders,” she says.

Voting ends on Thursday 26th June and a jury will then pore over the top ten films. “Jón Jónsson is a really good film which people will enjoy. And Erlingur is also pulling back from acting, so this might be one of the last times it’s possible to see him enjoying himself on screen.”

Lára asks people to visit Viewster.com and vote for her film. It can be seen on the site, for free, until 26th June.
