Iceland is ranked number 47 on the latest FIFA World Ranking in football, published yesterday, up five places from the last list and up 84 places since Lars Lagerbäck from Sweden took over as coach of the Icelandic national team in men’s football two years ago, visir.is reports.

As expected, the newly crowned World Cup winners, Germany, is on top, for the first time in 20 years. Argentina is number two and Holland is in third place. Meanwhile, Belgium is fifth, France is in the tenth spot and England in 20th, down from tenth place before the World Cup.

Iceland’s next game is against Turkey in September.
