Sales of Icelandic skyr in the Nordic countries are expected to reach roughly 60 million tubs this year. For comparison, around 8 million tubs of skyr are sold on the Icelandic market each year, ruv.is reports.
According to head of sales at MS dairy company, Aðalsteinn H. Magnússon, most of the exported skyr is produced in Selfoss, South Iceland.
Around one third of the skyr sold in the Nordic countries is produced in Iceland, or 20 million tubs, whereas the remaining 40 million tubs is produced abroad under the supervision of MS. The total value of the exported skyr is worth ISK 1.8 billion (USD 15.6 million, EUR 11.6 million).
