Wettest July in Reykjavík in Thirty Years

The month of July was rainy across the country with a 30-year record of 89.3 mm—70 percent above the average—being set in Reykjavík. Not since 1984 has there been more rain in Iceland’s capital. There was also a lot of rain and little sunshine in other parts of Southwest Iceland, as well as South Iceland, ruv.is reports.

The average temperature in Reykjavík was 11.8ºC (53ºF), 1.2ºC above the average for the period 1961-1990. The highest temperature recorded last month was 23.3ºC (74ºF) in Húsavík, North Iceland.

Sunshine hours in Reykjavík last month totaled 116, 88 hours below the average for the last ten years. Reykjavík hasn’t seen less sunshine in July since, 1989.
