Holuhraun eruption

White Steam Rising from Eruption Site

An eruption began in Holuhraun, north of Vatnajökull glacier, just after midnight. Lava fountains were visible on a webcam by Míla at two minutes past midnight. White steam can now be seen coming up from the eruption site.

Eruption Seen from North Iceland

Farmer Bragi Benediktsson at Grímsstaðir á Fjöllum, Northeast Iceland, says that he sees the glow from the eruption in Holuhraun and that visibility is good. His farm is located about 100 km (60 miles) from the eruption site.
