While the world was watching the possible eruption/non-eruption in Bárðarbunga to the north of Vatnajökull, over one thousand people got together to the south of Vatnajökull to watch a real display of ice and fire, a yearly firework display at the glacial lagoon Jökulsárlón.

For forty minutes, just before midnight, the Search and Rescue unit at Hornafjörður shot up a magnificent collection of fireworks, which were reflected in the lagoon, and lit up the icebergs.

Here you can see Bjarni Þorgilsson's drone video of the fireworks on Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon.
