According to volcanologist Ármann Höskuldsson, the eruption in Holuhraun lava field is more powerful now than it was this morning.

A video of the lava by Þorsteinn Jónsson of the Institute of Earth Sciences can be seen here on the website of national broadcaster RÚV

The Aviation Color Code for Bárðarbunga has been lowered from red to orange

The eruption site is outside of the glacier and the fissure is estimated to be 1.5 km long with lava flowing to the northeast, as stated in a report from the Icelandic Department of Civil Protection issued at 2 pm.

The report also states that to volcanic ash has been detected by the radar system and that the civil protection level is still ‘Alert Phase.’
