A tourist requested assistance from the police at Hvolsvöllur on Thursday when he drove off-road and got stuck in the mud. He caused considerable damage to the soft moss-covered ground, leaving deep tire marks.

The tourist claimed he did not know that driving off-road was forbidden, “which is really no excuse,” as the police say on their Facebook page. He was fined ISK 200,000 (USD 1,777, EUR 1,290), mbl.is reports.
