Sixty percent of young Icelanders are expected to complete a university degree in their lifetime according to the OECD annual report Education at a Glance.

This ratio is the highest in all of the OECD countries, mbl.is reports. The website of the Ministry of Education and Culture states that this is due in part to the fact that many people pursue higher education later in life. Iceland also has the oldest graduating students in the OECD.

The percentage of those who have completed a university program has risen steadily since the turn of the century and amounts to 71 percent among 25 to 64 year-olds. The increase is mainly due to the larger number of women seeking a degree as their ratio has increased from 65 to 80 percent in recent years.
