New Lava Area Continues to Grow

Since Friday, a new lava river has emerged at the Holuhraun eruption site, flowing 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) from the craters. As a result the area covered by lava is 2 sq km larger.

Drones Used to Count Seals

Scientists in Iceland will use drones for the seal count this year, organized by the Institute of Freshwater Fisheries and Icelandic Seal Center. If the method proves successful, it will be added to the usual counting of seals by plane and is hoped to reduce costs.

According to a the latest MMR survey, 34 percent of Icelanders support the current government. This number follows the downward trend that could be seen in the two previous surveys: on September 8, 36.3 percent supported the governing parties, and 38.5 percent did so on August 28.
