The first snow in Reykjavík this fall came rather unexpectedly to town late on Friday night. Even though snow and cold weather had already hit other parts of the country, many Reykjavík residents believe they live in a separate weather belt. Many residents had fallen asleep while others were preparing for the local football match of the year at local pubs and other locations. Some woke up to the sounds of a blizzard.

According to meteorologists, this is not unusually early. Snow often falls in Reykjavík at this time of year, meteorologist Óli Þór Árnason in mbl.is.
The match between FH and Stjarnan will take place in Hafnarfjörður at 4 pm on Saturday. The winner will be crowned Champion of Iceland 2014. In case of a draw, FH will win the title.
For some reason the winter did not arrive in Hafnarfjörður last night, so even though most fields in Reykjavík were covered with snow, there will be nothing to complain about in Hafnarfjörður (except some people may not be happy about the outcome of the game).
On Saturday morning a thin layer of snow still remained on the ground, but that will likely be washed away in the autumn rain.
