The Icelandic national team in men’s football beat Latvia 3-0 in an away game in Riga on Friday in the Euro 2016 Qualifiers. Iceland now shares the top spot in Group A with the Czech Republic, as both teams have scored six points. Iceland plays The Netherlands tonight.
Gylfi Þór Sigurðsson, Aron Einar Gunnarsson and Rúrik Gíslason scored the goals for Iceland. Gylfi scored his seventh goal in 28 games for Iceland, while Rúrik has scored two goals in 28 games and Aron scored his first goal for Iceland against Latvia, ruv.is reports.
The Latvian team was one player short in the last 35 minutes of the game.
This is the first time in Iceland’s history that the national team in men’s in football wins two matches in a row in the qualifiers for a major tournament. Iceland beat Turkey 3-0 in a home game last month.
Now the team is preparing for a tough game against The Netherlands at Laugardalsvöllur stadium in Reykjavík tonight.
