Snow, Icy Roads and Strong Wind around Iceland

The Icelandic Road Administration has warned drivers that there are spots of ice on Hellisheiði mountain pass to South Iceland as well as on Mosfellsheiði on the way to Þingvellir. Other roads around the country are also covered in spots of ice and wet snow or snow.

The Icelandic Met Office has issued a warning for a strong gale or storm (15 to 23 m/s) for most parts of the country today, starting in the northwest, spreading to the east by afternoon with a strong gale or storm in the east and south by the evening.

Snow is forecast for North Iceland, rain or sleet in Southeast and East Iceland and sleet in South Iceland.

A strong gale or storm is also forecast for the east part tomorrow, but lighter in the west with snow in the north. The temperature is widely forecast to be around freezing point.
