The driver of the car whose car ran off the road and into Ölfusá river in Selfoss, South Iceland, last night, has been found alive. Search and rescue volunteers found the man earlier this morning. The man is said to have been cold and in a poor condition.
The search continues as it is still uncertain whether he was alone in the vehicle. Conditions are very difficult as the current is particularly strong and visibility is low, ruv.is reports.
Up to 100 people, search and rescue volunteers, police officers and firefighters, began searching for the man after a witness observed the car running into the river between 10 and 11 last night.
A Coast Guard helicopter was also called out to participate in the search, along with divers from the police’s Special Forces.
