The website Where Cool Things Happen has chosen Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon in south Iceland as the most beautiful in the world. Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon is close to Kirkjubæjarklaustur, a popular pit stop on Highway 1, the Icelandic Ring Road, which circles the country.
The website reads:
“There are a lot of stunning and gorgeous Canyon’s around the world, but in all our travels this is probably the most Beautiful Canyon in the World. It’s called Fjaðrárgljúfur, completely unpronounceable by the way, and you can find it in Iceland.”
“Fjaðrárgljúfur is up to 100 m [328-feet]) deep and about 2 kilometers [1.4-mile] long, with the Fjaðrá river flowing through it. ... The canyon was created by progressive erosion by flowing water from glaciers through the rocks and palagonite over millennia.”
The photos which accompany the article, published yesterday, are impressive.
