Former Minister of the Interior Hanna Birna Kristjánsdóttir responded on Thursday to the questions of Ombudsman of Alþingi Tryggvi Gunnarsson about her communication with former Reykjavík Chief of Police Stefán Eiríksson during the investigation of her ministry in connection with the leak of a confidential document to the media in November 2013.

Hanna Birna would not reveal the content of her letter to the media but Tryggvi said he would publish it shortly, after having handed in his report on it, ruv.is reports.

Hanna Birna, who stepped down last November, also announced on Thursday that she will not return to parliament at the beginning of the new session on January 20 as expected but take an extended break from politics by several weeks.

The minister’s former assistant Gísli Freyr Valdórsson, who confessed to having leaked the document last November, has sought to reach an agreement in the damages cases of the three individuals he named. He was handed a suspended sentence for the leak.
