A woman was saved from the ocean yesterday morning after her car ran off the pier at Miðbakki harbor in Reykjavík. She was taken to the Landspítali National University Hospital emergency room and the doctor on duty described her condition as critical.
At first it was unclear whether there had been other people in the car and so three ambulances, several police cars, a crane and a fire truck were called to the scene. ICE-SAR search and rescue volunteers scoured nearby beaches and searched from boats, while a number of divers searched underwater, ruv.is reports.
The operation was completed at around 8 am yesterday morning when the car was lifted out of the water.
