Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson, who was nominated for an Oscar for his music in The Theory of Everything, missed out on the award at the ceremony last night. Instead, Alexandre Desplat took home the award for his music in The Grand Budapest Hotel.

Jóhann was the sixth Icelander to be nominated for an Oscar: director Friðrik Þór Friðriksson’s film Children of Nature was nominated for Best Foreign Film, Björk and Sjón for Best Song for Dancer in the Dark and Rúnar Rúnarsson and Þórir Snær Sigurjónsson were nominated for their short film The Last Farm.

Jóhann became the first Icelander to win a Golden Globe, also for his music in The Theory of Everything, last month. He was also nominated for a BAFTA last month but missed out on the award.
