Sam Film has completed a contract with the entertainments company Netflix, meaning that Iceland can expect to gain legitimate and legal access to Netflix services starting later this year.

Árni Samúelsson, the president of Sam Film, told RÚV about the new contract yesterday.

It is believed that up to 20,000 Icelandic homes are already connected to Netflix, which is an online service allowing people to watch films and television programming on demand.

The series House of Cars, which has been shown on RÚV TV in Iceland, was actually created for Netflix and the third series of the show was put on the website this week. RÚV will show the first episode of the new series on Monday.

That, RÚV reports, is the main difference: Netflix puts whole series online at the same time and it is up to the viewer how quickly they go through watching the programs.

Árni says that Netflix is keeping busy these days and that the company is increasing its in-house production, mostly of television programs.
