Master’s students from the University of Iceland legal department, in co-operation with the accounting and auditing company Deloitte, are offering the public free tax consultations today.
Late March is tax return time in Iceland, something that everybody has to do. The students are therefore offering the public free assistance today with their tax returns at Litla Torg, just off Háskólatorg in the University of Iceland main building, between 12.00 and 18.00.
The free assistance has been offered by students in this manner for years, and it is known that they were offering strangers free tax help in 1981, and possibly earlier than that.
The assistance is not selfless, as it provides students the chance to practice their skills in the real world and for a good cause, while being under direct supervision of some of the best professionals in their industry.
The Orator and Deloitte Tax Day is just one public service provided by law students at the university. They also provide people with free, confidential legal advice on telephone number +354 551 1012 every Thursday evening between 19.30 and 22.00.
Anyone wishing to attend the tax advice day today is asked to bring with them:
- Their RSK veflykill (tax agency password)
- Their internet banking login details and auðkennislykill (if they have one)
- Their verktakamiðar (contractors receipts) from last year, if applicable
