The methanol production plant Carbon Recycling at Svartsengi, Southwest Iceland, tripled its production last week to 4,000 tons per year, ruv.is reports.

Carbon dioxide emissions from the on-site HS Orka geothermal plant is combined with hydrogen to create methanol, which is used to produce biodiesel.

The future plan is to construct a new plant, ten to 20 times larger than the existing one where up to 46,000 tons can be produced per year.
