The Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue, ICE-SAR, will increase the number of volunteers in the highlands this summer due to the expected increase in tourists visiting the area north of Vatnajökull where Holuhraun lava field is located, ruv.is reports.

Volunteers will be on patrol in the area to provide information about driving conditions, the weather and other conditions in the area as well as be on standby to respond to any accidents or other issues.

ICE-SAR has run the so-called Highlands Watch since 2005.
