The funeral of Halldór Ásgrímsson, the former Prime Minister of Iceland, will take place on Thursday, May 28 at 13.00 in Hallgrímskirkja cathedral.
It will be a state funeral.
Halldór died in intensive care at Landspítali hospital on May 18 following a heart attack. He was 67-years-old and leaves behind a wife, three grown-up daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, RÚV reports.
Halldór was Prime Minister from September 15 2004 until June 2006. He had previously served as Minister for Foreign Affairs, and as Minister of Fisheries, Minister of Justice and Ecclesiastical Affairs.
He was the chairman of the Progressive Party from 1994 until 2006, and vice chairman from 1980 to 1994.
