A cool climate, energy security and green electricity production are among the reasons making Iceland a good location for data centers.

However, Iceland also offers many areas of uncertainty for international companies trying to build data centers—not least in the process of how to plan, license and build such facilities.

This is the opinion of Philip Schneider, the president of Selector’s Guide Guild, who gave a speech to Landsvirkjun power company this week.

In his role as president of Selector’s Guide Guild, Schneider has helped big international companies choose locations for many data centers all over the world, RÚV reported.

He said in his speech that there are many good reasons to build data centers in Iceland, especially its cheap, green electricity, but that not everybody knows about them yet.

At the same meeting, Landsvirkjun’s Björgvin Skúli Sigurðsson said that there is a lot of demand for the company’s electricity at the moment and that many companies and projects are looking closely at creating bases in Iceland—adding, though, that competition in the data center market is very fierce.
