Helgi Hrafn Jónsson, MP for the Pirate Party, appeared to have had enough of Alþingi, the Icelandic parliament, on Wednesday evening when he rapped the song ‘Hleypið mér út úr þessu partýi’ (‘Let me out of this party’) by Jónas Sigurðsson in the podium.

Helgi concluded his speech with the lines: “I’ve had enough of this bullshit. Let’s take it to the next level,” Vísir reports.

In his speech, Helgi listed his party’s achievements during the current parliamentary session—which ends tomorrow—including bills on conflict of interest among MPs; ministers’ obligation to inform the public and tell the truth; abolishing imprisonment for expressing one’s opinion; and abolishing the ban on blasphemy.

Helgi stated that a lot of work had been wasted because of how Alþingi had operated this year. “Every other day has been like the final scene of a Game of Thrones episode; the only thing you know for sure that there’s probably something perfectly horrible about to happen.”

Helgi also criticized the minority’s impotence. “It’s obvious that if the majority is simply always supposed to rule in the shadow of one or two letters from voters every four years, then the minority, which after all makes up 40 percent of parliament, might as well go home after the election.”

The Pirate Party is the country’s largest, according to the latest opinion polls.
