Preparations are currently underway for the World Championship for Icelandic Horses, this year held in Herning, Denmark from August 3 to August 9.
"We are expecting about 10,000 people and 200-300 horses," organizer Rúnar Þór Guðbrandsson told Vísir.
"What's really special is that Nordic culture will be on prominant display at the championships. For example there will be a viking village, Saami people from the north of Finland, Sweden and Norway are bringing a tent and will be introducing their culture. The Finns will be erecting some sort of sauna-tent, and the Icelanders will have a small house containing a traditional Icelandic dining room."
Organizers have released a promotional video which was composed and directed by Icelandic musician Stony (Þorsteinn Baldvinsson).
Stony shot to fame at a young age when his drum cover of Macklemore’s Can’t Hold Us received significant attention on Youtube.
Subsequently Stony was commissioned to work on and star in Pepsi’s ‘Now is What You Make It’ ad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, alongside singer Janelle Monáe and several renowned footballers, such as Lionel Messi, Robin van Persie and Sergio Ramos.
