Banned Motorcyclist Crashes at Three-times Speed Limit

The driver of a motorcycle lost control and crashed on the Reykjavík urban highway of Sæbraut just after 21.00 on Tuesday evening, and it has since come to light he is a regular at the police station.

All three emergency services attended the scene of the serious accident and the man was transported to hospital for recovery.

Westbound traffic was stopped along the road while road sweeping machines cleared up the oil and debris from the crash.

The motorcyclist lost control of the bike by Súðarvogur and was traveling at 147 km/h (91 mph) when the police caught him on radar. The speed limit on that road is 60 km/h.

The rider lost control of the motorbike when police tried to pull him over, Vísir reports.

According to capital police information, the driver was bruised by the accident, but surprisingly escaped serious injury.

He is a man in his 20s, currently has no driving license and has lost his license several times before for various traffic law violations.
