A number of passengers of Icelandair and WOW Air have canceled their tickets to Iceland to protest a decision made by the Reykjavík City Council to boycott Israeli goods and services, RÚV reports. (The decision was made by the city council September 15, but Saturday, it was announced that the boycott would be canceled.)
Icelandair Public Relations Officer Guðjón Arngrímsson reports the company has received numerous messages, both by social media and by other means, from people all over the world, condemning the boycott and canceling trips, or saying they’re planning to cancel conferences and so on. The people come from many different places, he says, and it’s hard to quickly assess the impact this will have or how serious the damage will be.
Svanhvít Friðriksdóttir, public realations officer for WOW Air, tells RÚV the company has noticed a considerable number of cancelations and people reporting on the company’s social media pages that they’re not flying to Iceland.
The Reykjavík City website reports the city council will have a meeting tomorrow to discuss two motions to withdraw a resolution accepted by the city council September 15 regarding preparation and execution of a boycott by the Reykjavík City Council of Israeli goods.
