World-famous Canadian pop star Justin Bieber (21) has now left Iceland for the USA after a few days’ vacation.
While Bieber was keen to keep his precise location within Iceland a secret, and had deliberately kept his arrival in the country quiet, he did speak briefly to DV—saying that his visit to the country was purely for leisure and that he did not plan to do any work here. His brief holiday stop-off was planned on his way to the USA from Greece. His private jet contained a significant entourage who needed two hired black minibuses to travel around Iceland.
Hún.is reports that several Icelandic girls were lucky enough to get photographs with their idol, and one of them reportedly went up to his hotel room. One source claimed she was the first in Iceland to hear his next song, but it is not known what else the pair got up to.
Speculation aside, it is known that Bieber enjoyed Iceland, as he tweeted his goodbye including the phrases “best trip ever” and “Iceland, we love you”.
And so, a new Íslandsvinur* is born—and there’s almost nothing he can do about it. For life.
*When an international celebrity visits (or even mentions) Iceland, the Icelandic media have a habit of branding them ‘Íslandsvinur’ (Friend of Iceland) and the label usually sticks.
One seldom sees the names of Bono, Damon Albarn, Snoop Dogg or Quentin Tarantino mentioned without the suffix ‘Íslandsvinur’. It is not yet clear whether Bam Margera is still an Íslandsvinur.
