“The choice was between shooting him or picking him up this way,” says farmer Sveinn Ingimarsson at Sturluflöt, about a rescue mission he conducted while herding sheep by Fellsá river in Fljótsdalur valley, East Iceland, last Thursday, RÚV reports.

“As we were herding in our farmland, some of the sheep landed in the river. This ram lamb didn’t make it over. We had tried getting him with the help of dogs, but we couldn’t reach him. Since I have a wetsuit, I decided to get him,” says Sveinn, but he got into the river and swam toward the ram. “He was exhausted when I came, so I swam with him in my arms. I had to keep his head up and make sure he could breathe once in a while.”
As far as Sveinn knows, the ram has recovered.
